Tommy
Tommy passed away this morning, 10/20/05, with his foster mom Mary by his
side. Tommy was barely with us for two weeks and was being treated for severe
heartworms. He had spent the last 8 months of his life at an animal shelter.
Heartworms are the #1 preventable disease in dogs. Had Tommy's previous owners spent less than $5 a month to give him a pill he would still be alive and happy today. Although the number of deaths from heartworm treatment is low, the lack of treatment will cause death in dogs 100% of the time. It is imperative that you keep your dog on heartworm preventive year round. To learn more about heartworms and what the treatment entails, please visit The Pet Center.

Sophie, loved by her foster home, lost her life to Distemper in October 2007. Distemper is an often fatal airborne disease striking young dogs (3-6 months of age) and older dogs who have not been vaccinated. Click on the link above to read more about the Canine Distemper Virus (CDV).
